All Things Sweet

I was first introduced to Sweet Beginnings about a year or so ago. They create products that are honey-based - lotions, lip balms, & of course honey. The best part of it all is that they train and employ local residents who have past criminal records and give them the opportunity to re-enter the community by learning valuable skills and providing career advancement. For those of you who don't know much about the Prison Industrial Complex, most folks that are incarcerated have a 50% chance (or more) of going back to prison. The system is all fucked but Sweet Beginnings does what it can to help decrease that number - the folks who go through the Sweet Beginnings program have less than a 3% chance of goin back to prison. WORD!!!!! :)

I was fortunate enough to check out their facility (& eat some urban honey - there is a difference) in North Lawndale, Chicago. I had such a great time, learned a TON, & finally overcame my fear of bees. ;)
